On January 10, from 15.00 – 17.00hrs, [urban interfaces] in collaboration with MCW’s Datafied Society and the MCW Expertise Centre organises a lecture and research meeting, this time with Shannon Mattern as our guest speaker with the lecture: Interfaces in an Expanding FieldUrban screens, media facades, public kiosks, travel monitors, and smartphones are among the countless screens that permeate our urban environments, granting urban citizens access to local data and information feeds. Yet the screen-based interface and its prioritisation of visualisation privilege particular ways of knowing the city. Given the myriad forms of “intelligence” embedded into and flowing through our urban landscapes, perhaps we should think more expansively about what an urban interface can be, and how it can function as an epistemic and affective frame.
